Roger started paddling in 1980 in New Zealand's North Island where he focused on white water. After moving to the South Island and settling in Anakiwa he took on sea kayaking as a way to get out and explore the surrounding secluded waterways and inlets of Marlborough Sounds. From September 1990 to October 1993 Roger worked at the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa. It was during this period, when he was involved with outdoor instruction, that he saw the opportunity to help others enjoy the Marlborough Sounds region by setting up an adventure based sea kayaking operation. With it's close access to the Queen Charlotte track, sheltered waters and scenic value, Anakiwa was the obvious choice to base the company. The business stared out with 2 Double Southern Lights and 4 Single Puffin sea kayaks. At this time the sea kayaking industry was still a 'work in progress' and Roger became one of the founding members of the Sea Kayak Operators Association of New Zealand (SKOANZ). This association has been instrumental in developing industry standard safe operating guidelines as well as a pathway for aspirant sea kayaking guides to gain experience, knowledge and qualifications. The drive to create a professional working atmosphere reflects Rogers commitment to bring you a safe and rewarding sea kayaking experience. The company has now expanded to include a wide variety of kayaks for you to choose from. The staff of Sea Kayaking Adventure Tours will be able to give you all the information and knowledge to enable you to enjoy a magical experience in this fantastic area of New Zealand. You can choose from a wide selection of guided trips or head out on your own personal adventure. Sea Kayaking Adventure Tours cateres for a wide variety of groups ranging from Polytech, Armed Forces, Tramping Clubs through to Backpackers. Special packages and the flexibility to streamline and mold programs to suit individual groups abilities and desires is a strong point of Roger's operation.
